Boxer Cardiomyopathy

Meet Rocky!! Rocky is a 9-year-old Boxer who was immediately rushed in to Friendship Emergency & Critical Care Services after he collapsed following his morning walk. He was stabilized and quickly diagnosed with a life-threatening arrhythmia, ventricular tachycardia. Ventricular tachycardia arises from improper electrical activity causing the filling chambers of the heart (the ventricles) to beat quickly.

Rocky was given injectable medications to treat his arrhythmia. After extensive diagnostics and an echocardiogram performed by Dr. Block of Friendship Cardiology Specialists, he was diagnosed with arrhythmogenic ventricular cardiomyopathy, also known as Boxer Cardiomyopathy. Boxer Cardiomyopathy is a heart disease of boxers that results in fainting and abnormal rhythms.

We are happy to report that Rocky was discharged from the hospital back to the care of his loving family.

Rocky returned for a recheck with Friendship Cardiology Specialists and a Holter monitor was placed, which will record his ECG at home for 24 hours. This will help us evaluate his response to treatment.
